Magnolia Ball Club, 1844
This engraved ticket to an 1844 soirée is the earliest known image of grown men playing baseball. It depicts the Magnolia Ball Club—a workingman’s aggregation—in action at the Elysian Fields of Hoboken. The Colonnade Hotel is at right.
